Air Force Exercise Demonstrations
Polar Orbital attended the Finnish Air Force exercise in Southern Finland in May 2026, demonstrating secure remote operations of the next generation ground station located in Lapland. By using infrastructure and services developed in Finland, the exercise showcased the growing national capability to independently acquire, process, and distribute critical Earth observation data.
“Sovereign and reliable access to Earth observation data is becoming increasingly important for national preparedness and operational resilience,” says the CEO at Polar Orbital.

Launch of Operations
Polar Orbital has established its High North ground station operations, with a newly licensed site in Finland supporting both uplink and downlink capabilities. Positioned to serve high-latitude coverage requirements, the station strengthens access to polar-orbiting satellite passes and enhances continuity for Earth observation and security-focused missions, while maintaining data and infrastructure sovereignty. This milestone marks a significant step in expanding independent European ground segment infrastructure in one of the most strategically important regions for space-based sensing and communications.

Role in BODYGUARD
Drawing on deep expertise in strategic security, defence R&D management, and threat and vulnerability analysis, combined with advanced scientific knowledge in space technologies, Polar Orbital is contributing to critical aspects of the EDF BODYGUARD project.
As part of the consortium, the company is leading work on assessing both ground and space-based threats, designing effective response measures, and shaping requirements for future ground segment architectures. Polar Orbital is also developing innovative solutions and operational use cases while simulating communication disturbances across space and ground systems.

On June 10th, 2025, graduates of the University of Helsinki Incubators’ NEXUS program, which focuses on Deep Tech and AI, came together to celebrate their achievements. After several months of intensive mentorship, validation, and networking, the program wrapped up with a final event where just seven standout teams were selected to pitch their ventures on stage.
